Although Halliea doesn't make a living in the horse world, she would laugh and say she definitely supports many others making a living this way. Halliea has been in the equine world for a very short time, comparatively. But it just so happens to be most of her life! For over 15 years Halliea has been riding and competing in Hunters. She switched to basic dressage work around 2003, and moved onto Eventing in 2005. Halliea is know for her soft heart when it comes to projects and rescues, and many of her horses for sale were at one point in either of those categories. Horses that aren't perfect are many times named "unmanageable" or "untrainable" when so many times these horses are just misunderstood by people who grew up in the microwave generation and expect perfection immediately. These horses and the owners that want to work with their horses have a direct path to Halliea's heart.
Halliea has trained with many different trainers, all with different ways of getting to the same goal: a correctly trained horse.
Some of the trainers that Halliea has had the privilege of working with are Chris Elliott, LeAnn Orr of DreamLand Farm, Zeb Fry of Little Kentucky Farm, Amanda Persons of Applewood Farm, and Mary Bess Sigman of Triple Creek Eventing. Halliea has also taken clinics with several notable riders including Imtiaz Anees and Anna Jane White-Mullin, Lisa Wilcox, and the incomparable George Morris.
She currently trains with Richard Lifton for dressage and Woody Dykers for Hunters. 2009 clinics on the calendar include Carol Ogden and George Morris. Tater and Halliea are currently in eventing training, and are successfully competing in local Hunter, Dressage, Combined Training, and events.
Halliea returns from her duty day in Kuwait.
Outside of the Horse World...
Outside of the horse world Halliea enjoys helping her husband, Ken, operate his automotive repair business. Recently, Ken has branched out into a new venture for both of them - a Tanning Salon! It has been great fun for Halliea to help him realize a dream that he has had for many years. Now, Halliea's days are split between the shop, the salon, and the barn - helping her husband (who makes it possible for her to help horses, even as much as he grumbles about it) wherever he needs help most, and trying her best to sneak off for an afternoon ride. It is an extremely busy and rewarding life.
Halliea is also a member in good standing of the Georgia Army National Guard. Her unit is stationed out of Dobbins Air Reserve Base in Marietta, GA, and she has been with them since June of 2000. Halliea spent a year stationed in Kuwait in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom, was activated for the relief effort for Hurricane Katrina, and most recently was deployed to the Dominican Republic for Operation New Horizons (a peace keeping, humanitarian effort). Her military experience only reinforces her drive and commitment for success, and it has given her the discipline and perseverance that it takes to effectively complete any task.
